North Prairie Regional Water District System III water has brownish tint for the past few days. This is caused from a break through of Iron Maganese. We have been experiencing some issues at our water treatment facility . We are aware and are working on the issue. Our water that we pump out of the Volitare Aquifer is high in Iron and Magnese. We use a special process of areation, green sand filters to remove the iron and magnese. The process to make this happen is very percise and it is something we monitor daily but there are many factors that enter in and things happen.
Iron and manganese in water refers to the presence of naturally occcurring mineral, iron (FE) and manganese (Mn), dissolved in groundwater, which can cause discoloration on whites and fixtures if it is used for long periods of time. Your water is safe to drink as Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) are minerals that are commenly found in earth's crust and can dissolve into water as it passes through soil and rock formations. We apolize for any inconvinces that this may have caused but this discolored water should work its way through our system by the middle of next week.. Thank you for your understanding.
